James E. Hawkins James E. Hawkins
James E. Hawkins retired as Senior Chief (E-8) from the United States Navy after 23 years. He had a distinguished career as an Aviation Ordnanceman. Senior Chief Hawkins’ career took him through arduous duties while serving our great nation. These duties included Aviation Attack Squadrons, Aircraft viii Carriers, and Staff Duty as an Aviation Weapons Instructor – just to name a few.
His career also took him to a couple of very unconventional schools for his field. Senior Chief Hawkins was among four selected for a special, tactical security pilot program while serving as the Weapons Department Leading Chief onboard the USS Abraham Lincoln. For this program, he attended a rappelling course taught by the U.S. Army. James graduated from this course as a Rappel Master. The course that trained him in tactical security and awareness was Shipboard Security Engagement Tactics (SSET). On the first day of class, the instructor said, “When you graduate from this course, you will never look at the world the same again.” That statement had really grabbed his attention.
James discovered that many individuals are oblivious to their surroundings, and being unaware and unprepared can result in undesirable outcomes. He began teaching his wife and daughters to be more vigilant. Hearing about a woman getting her purse snatched in the parking lot of a local department store inspired him to write this book.
